Why I chose Pitt

I chose Pitt because of the extensive collaboration that goes on between all of the departments.  The faculty are so impassioned about their work, and are also interested in what others are up to, even if it doesn’t particularly relate to their resesarch interests. Also, a major focus here is to think outside of the norm. Professors and PI’s alike encourage students to consider creative ideas rather than regurgitating already proven experiments and methods.  This shows a progressive approach to science and medical treatments that can incorporate a very diverse culture of scientists from vastly different backgrounds.

Following her graduation, Dr. Welty accepted a position as a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. Amantha Thathiah's lab in the Department of Neurobiology here at the University of Pittsburgh.
